- About The Project
Heritage 21 was commissioned by “The Hub” to provide onsite heritage technical expertise during construction of a fit out over 2 levels of Customs House as a ‘hot desking’ flexible co-working office facilities. The premises are leased by the City of Sydney Council to the Hub for purposes of operating the facility.
- What was done
Two floors of Customs House were retrofitted to provide a range of office spaces both private and public in the facility. Heritage 21 was the onsite heritage architect for the project which took approximately 6 months to build. During this period, all the heritage technical advice was provided to the builder and his subcontractors in relation to the heritage fabric. At the end of the project, Heritage 21 signed off on the high standard of the fit-out work by FDC Sydney

Why was the work undertaken?
The Council of the City of Sydney leased out two floors of Customs House to the ‘Hub’ and in turn, Hub took on the fit-out construction work. Due to the high level of historical and heritage significance, Heritage 21 was appointed to oversee the work to ensure that the original fabric of the building was protected and appropriately dealt with. Also, ever assurance was made to provide a completely reversible fit out so as not diminish the significance of the heritage fabric.
