Brisbane Brutalism – Queensland

The listing of 1970s Brutalist architecture has become popular recently and Heritage 21 is currently involved in dealing with an exponent of one Queensland’s Brutalist buildings. Some people love the audacity of the style while others reject its inherent arrogance in the sense that Brutalist buildings almost always pay zero homage to their immediate surroundings in terms of scale, bulk and sheer materiality. Nonetheless, the issue is ever evolving and in terms of heritage significance, Heritage 21 finds itself in the midst of a hotly contested listing debate.
