- About The Project
The Kembla Grange Estate, is situated in a picturesque valley, nestled at the bottom of the Illawarra escarpment. Heritage 21 was approached by the developer Robert Molino from MGR Group to provide heritage advise in relation to the sandstone cottage called ‘Stane Dyke’. Firstly, Heritage 21 established the necessary curtilage around the cottage and secondly, Heritage 21 paired all the documentation for the conservation and repair of the cottage.
- What was done
The site was divided up into approx. 350 residential lots some of which are under construction as this in written, Stane Dyke provides the focal point of the sub-division but because of its state of disrepair, much work was required to conserve the building. This was duly done and all conservation works were completed in 2019.

Why was the work undertaken?
For purposes of subdivision into approx. 350 residential lots, it was necessary to establish conservation policies in relation to the sandstone building that was constructed in the 1900s and physically moved from higher up the hill to its current position in the 1930s. Primarily, Heritage 21 establish the curtilage around the heritage listed building in order to gain council approval which was successful. Secondly, due to the poor state of disrepair in relation to Stane Dyke, Heritage 21 produced a schedule of conservation works to faithfully restore the sandstone cottage and bring it up to current lifestyle expectations. This was duly done.
Who was the work completed for?
The developer Robert Molino from MGR Group
Outcome
A very positive outcome was achieved to the sandstone cottage and its visual curtilage around the building including selected landscaping features, sandstone conservation and the revitalisation of the cottage to meet current lifestyle expectations.
